I can't really afford 1 much less 2, but I'm getting 1, so which one should I get?
I have everything necessary but it's all vintage. I am playing a lot of smaller venues as a 3 piece that would be ideal, I think, for the double trouble. Small, line out, big sound. But the double trouble would have to depend on a PA/monitors in a bigger venue. Would the 35 work hard enough to shine in a smaller setting and still have enough headroom to hold up onstage with the full band (a reasonable one)?
Or is the 50 what I need?
Thanks

I own a Double Trouble. I really like it. I've played it with a variety of bands. It's obviously not Bassman loud, but it holds it's own quite well. It doesn't have a huge bottom to it. If you bring tone and technique to the game, the tone is very nice. It's perfect for small and mid-size rooms.

I never played the 35, but I did get to do an A/B test of the HG30 and the Double Trouble. I found the Double Trouble to be louder before feedback than the HG30. It was also smaller and lighter. The HG30 has better bottom.

You asked, "Would the 35 work hard enough to shine in a smaller setting and still have enough headroom to hold up onstage with the full band (a reasonable one)?"

That is exactly the role where I use the Double Trouble.

I'm pretty happy with my HG-35. It cuts pretty well right up until the band gets out of control. The sound is still nice at low volume, too.

I've never tried a Double Trouble, only the 35, the smallest one, and the HG50. They all sound really great IMO.

Interesting. My 60 Concert is a beast and has me covered for the biggest shows, which I don't do often. It sounds like I might get the most use (fun!) out of the Double Trouble.

i have modded masco 25 30 watt amps brown tone---add a kinder anti feedback box---your in the game you just have to use the most of the 25 watts with out feed back and you got it, playing with a full 20 watts is loud just need a cab to project well --to get volume on out there so these 30 watt amps will get it with anti feed back box or you just dont stand a chance

I recently heard an HG50 1210 - I was very impressed with it. The Double Trouble is a great amp. The HG35 I played did have a fairly low feedback threshold but that might be adjustable with tubes.

RJ Mischo posted this on Facebook, "I'm now playing a Harp Gear Amp with 1/12 & 1/10 inch speaker, it has more head room then my Concert, Super or Bassman it sounds better & is lighter, matched with a Lone Wolf V2 Delay, I've finally got a rig that really does what I need, just wanted to share that."

Littoral - If you already have a Concert, then you don't need another bigger amp. If you're going to get a HarpGear amp then buy a Double Trouble. It's a great amp with a line out for bigger venues, has killer tone and is unbelievably light.
