Guitar players talk about needing fancy gizmos to split their signal so they don't lose signal strength, tone, and avoid things like buzz.

Is that true with harmonica? In thinking my looping rig through, if I split my mic signal, I can send one signal to my amp and one to my effects.

It would look like this (I would need to get a passive splitter or A/B pedal):

Mic Split 2 ways

1. To a Left Stereo input of Looper to Left Stereo input of M13 to HarpGear HG2

2. To Boss OC2 to Right Stereo input of Looper to Right Stereo input of M13 to DI to PA

This should let me loop and use effects anywhere, yet keep the BASS parts away from the amp.

I am thinking this through here because I don't have anything to split my signal coming out of my Samson Wireless (which has a 1/4" and XLR out that might work for this). I can just go by a passive signal splitter (like Adam uses) in town...I think.

But I have to buy to try this and want to make sure I get the right thing/avoid issues.

My DI box does have ground, etc, like you'd see on the nice A/B boxes.

Thanks!

If you always want the 2 outs, without switching back & forth, use a 1/4" "Y" splitter. You only need something like an ABY splitter box when switchng between one amp, the other, or both.

You might want to check the input impedances, with an ohmeter, of the 2 devices straight after the splitter to ensure that they are not massively different & one is loading the other.

If it sounds good, will it be safe? I wouldn't know how to measure that. I did find this: http://www.loop-master.com/product_info.php?cPath=26&products_id=225http://www.loop-master.com/product_info.php?cPath=26&products_id=225

I work right by a music store and will go ahead and get a passive cable. I bet they are really cheap anyways. Wouldn't hurt to have one. I'd imagine by wireless has a solid buffer. Otherwise, if I use an Opto Stomp, I could put it after that.

Really, I want something that fits on my board. Cost isn't such an issue vs making sure the amp tone is as uneffected as possible.

A buddy of mine has one of those ABY boxes. We used it to do AB testing of amps. I think his was made by Kendrick.

Looper, OC 2, M13 should all be isolated from wall AC via their wall wart power supplies, the ground lift on the DI will eliminate ground loop hum between the PA & HG2. The obvious place to put the splitter is coming off the wireless receiver, buy a couple of cheap adaptors to see how well it works before spending whole dollars on a "Y" cable.

I can't foresee anything that would compromise your safety.

I use all wall warts. My AC/DC and mA per pedal are so all over the place, only a $250 power supply would work for all of them, lol.

Will let you know how it works. What is nice is that I can leave it all setup on a pedalboard, so once it is all figured out, the setup time is still just opening the board and turning it on.

I haven't had time to practice this week as I am busy with harps (shipped seven boxes of harps this week already).

I am so stupid. I took less than 5 minutes and used a cheap passive splitter to try this out. Worked perfectly...sounded great...had my bass-singing unaffected going through the HG2.

Argh! The mix sounds great, but you can hear my singing! I am out of time for this sort of noodling for a day or two, but I will try running the OC-2 at a lower level and boosting the bass through the DI. In theory, this would have the bass goign to the OC-2 at a manageable level.

I can't believe I didn't think of that!

FWIW, the Tech 21 Bass Driver DI is a sweet piece of gear!
