I've bought lots of blues harmonica tutor books but my favourite has to be Glenn Weiser's " Blues & Rock Harmonica". I find the book very stimulating, and I like the way that it is set out; also, Glenn's explanations are very clear and entertaining. Glenn also covers certain approaches to getting familar with the harmonica layout that I haven't come across else where. Great stuff!

I found Gindicks Rock n' Blues Harmonica just right for a musical dunce. The side story of Adam and Eve Stone is a bit silly but the information is there plus you can get going quickly with the Jamming Buddy playalong CD.
Years ago I tried other books but you really do need to hear what a riff sounds like rather than just getting it explained to you. ----------

I've seen Weiser's book, but never looked past the cover because I already have Gindick's Rock n' Blues, and the brief description made me think it would be about the same. Your appreciation of that book got me curious enough to read reviews on Amazon. I'm gonna order it. What kind of rock do I have to look forward to in that book?
As far as your question, I don't have a favorite. I like having varied approaches to teaching. I think David Barrett's stuff is great.

I haven't bought any of Glen Weiser's books but David Barrett's series of Books/CDs/DVDs are the best I've found so far.

If I had to pick one it would be Winslow's book "Harmonica For Dummies"
I also think these deserve a mention (as do Gindick and Barrett's book) Richard Sleigh's "Turbocharge Your Harmonica, Volume 1" David Harp's "Blues & Rock Harp "Positions" Made Easy" James Major's "C Harmonica Book" Richard Hunter's "Jazz Harp"
and an honorable mention, because for so long it was the only book...
Tony glover's "Blues Harp"

Gindick's books got me started. They were really the only ones out there for awhile. I referred back to those for years. Since then, I've bought everything and learned bunches from all mentioned here. Tom Ball's "Sourcebook of Little Walter/Big Walter Licks for Blues Harmonica" is a favorite too. ---------- Ricky B www.bushdogblues.blogspot.com RIVER BOTTOM BLUES--a crime novel for blues fans due out 2012

Over the years I probably bought about 20 books relating to playing the harmonica and I would say that I agree with Benditlikewalter. There are other books that are worth getting, but I found that to be my favorite. The Gindick books are great for beginners(like many books are).
