Comes down to the individual amp, a lot of well known players have used them over the years. The 65 RI shares the same circuit as the original BF amp, but the devil is in the detail (tubes, bias, a good reverb tank...might need a bit of dialling in but the potential is definitely there) overall I'd say go for it if the price is good...should be easy enough to sell on if you don't fall in love with it.

They're fairly heavy compared to say a Bassman, lighter than a Twin.

I gig with a Fender Super Reverb Reissue. Great harp amp, IMHO and very versitile. No mods necessary, but i did change the tube configuration. You've got to spend some time fooling around with the controls to get it dialed in but I think it's a terrific amp for harp.

They are heavy. I put casters (wheels) on mine.

@bazzzzou - if you live in a major metropolitan area, then you should look on craigslist for used prices.

For $900, you can still pick up a used silverface amp in good condition. In my location, $900 for a used reissue is not a good deal. I've seen them as low as $600. $700-$800 is a typical asking price.

Settings: I go into input #2 on the reverb channel, and set volume at 7, bass on 2, mid on 6, treble on 2, reverb on 3. I use a 545 Ultimate and turn volume down on the mic to control feedback and set volume level. If you don't have a VC on your mic, you can't turn the volume control on the amp up that high. 7 is REALLY LOUD but I like the TONE at that that setting. This amp really comes alive at volume settings at 6 and above. But if you don't have a VC on your mic, you may not get past 3 before you start to feed back. If you want more dirt, turn the mids up to 7 or 8 OR go into the input #2 of the Normal channel which is dirtier and louder than the reverb channel.

I used to own the real deal from a guy who bought brand new in 1965. Weighs like a ton of bricks compared to a Bassman, but they are good harp amps. Back in the 70's, the 4 main harp amps were, in no particular order: '59 Bassman, '61 Concert, Super Reverbs, Twin Reverbs.
