Hey
I was thinking about replaceing the little honeytone that I use with one of these:
http://www.voxamps.com/us/ac1rv/
I like the features that it has and its not expensive, but I dont know if the bass one would be better for harp. I know that alot of people use the "bassman" amps so I just needed some clarification from some pros.
Thanks

Certain bass amps sound GREAT for harp. Maybe not the best choice if one is after a "Chicago" sound (the Fender Bassman being an exception, but the Bassman is more of a guitar amp than a bass amp anyway). I sometimes use an SWR Baby Baby Blue bass amp and i love it. Nice, deep dark thick tone. I've also played through some other bass amps i thought sounded great.

I think the larger coupling caps of bass amps and the nature of the EQ on bass amps makes some of them very suitable for harp. Not good if you are after a distorted sound, though.

I am not an electronics guy, but I know a lot about how bass amps sound -vs- guitar amps.

The non-technical answer is... Guitar amps are meant to overdrive and bass amps are meant to be clean. Similar to all the tube amp -vs- PA discussions. Don't get me wrong, some bass amps can overdrive a little, and most good (powerful) guitar amps can be clean.

I'm sure there is a frequency response difference, and there are definitely different types of speakers used.

A guitar amp has higher frequencies that can cause feedback when using a microphone. One advantage of a bass amp is that it doesn't boost the high and midrange frequencies that causes feedback. Another advantage of a bass amp is that the low notes of a harmonica sound much better with a bass amp.

Maybe one of the forum members who knows a lot about gear will chime in and give you a better and more detailed explantion than I can.

I use a mini Vox amp for practice! although it is a lot older than these and only has a tone and volume knobs, and 2 inputs, but you can get a great dirty tone when you crank it up.

Thanks for the replies, it helps.

Fingers: is your mini vox the guitar version?

I like the idea of the onboard rythym section with these new mini vox's. seems like alot of features for the price range.
