Over the past few months I have been playing with a Bluegrass group that meet bi-monthly. Lots of Banjos, Guitars, Mandolins a Double Bass, a Fiddle & one Harmonica - me. It's a blast.
There are many tunes I know or can adapt to easily but I note that all of the others work from a book, containing ca 300+ tunes, called 'Parking Lot Pickers Songbook'. The songbook comes in different editions for Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin & Fiddle. Each book comes with a CD.There is not one available for a Harmonica.
My question is which one would it be best to get, ie easiest to work with and adapt to harmonica?

go with the fiddle.... learn those fiddle lines and they'll welcome you everywhere.....well almost everywhere.
if you play chromatic a 16 holer will put you right in the fiddle range.

Actually, a 14 hole chrom will put you in fiddle range. I've been getting into chrom lately, so I've just learned this. Don't know anything about bluegrass, though.

Thanks clyde & hvyi > Fiddle it is. I figured the fiddle one would grab my ear best ie the CD. I do a lot of Irish & Bluegrass fiddle tunes anyway but don't read music.
I have a couple of 12 hole chroms but end up fighting with them each time I try to play them. Don't like the grief the windsavers cause (gumming up/popping) plus I'm the type that has trouble doing one thing right at a time let alone have to think about button pushing. No, I'll stick with the diatonic. Thanks anyway.

Thanks rharley5652> I ordered the Fiddle version of the Pickers book today from Amazon. It has ca 300 tunes and 2 CDs. If I learn them I will be on exactly the same page as other members of the group. I will check out the book /CD you suggested but I see it has only a small number of tunes listed. Already I have a couple of good resource books - Irish & American Fiddle Tunes by Glenn Weisser & Cross Harp Songbook - Bluesify your Melody by Jon Gindick.

@Aussiesucker : In addition to what has been suggested, you may want to check out www.brendan-power.com (if you haven't been there already ). He has devoted decades to playing Irish/fiddle music on harmonica. ---------- KiwiRick http://www.richardshanksart.com
