Hi folks after seeing Christelle posting the French anthem I thought it might be fun for folks to post up their anthems. So to get the ball rolling I'll bite the bullet and post my first video, so if you fancy giving any feedback that would be appreciated also.
It's Scotland adopted anthem Flower of Scotland,
Greg

Nicely played Greg. I tried this idea myself a while back, but the response was luke warm - Just one patriotic Aussie chipped in. I'll try and upload my vid again and see if we can get the ball rolling. I'm certain there are patriots out there willing to give it a bash:) ---------- Grey Owl YouTube Grey Owl Abstract Photos
Ive never thought of learning my national anthem. I'm not sure why that is but you just may have prompted me to give it a go.
@Greyowl, i must of mist your video but i bet you nailled it.
I'm welsh by the way so my anthem would be "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau"
If i get time i may post a video but im woodshedding for BYBO3 when i can as im working 7days a week at the moment and grabbing woodshed time is difficult:o)
@Kingo I live in east tennessee-close to the great smoky mountains which are protected and unspoiled but right @the park boundary there is major overdevelopment ruining the scenery I am very much against anything that destroys the environment for the love of $$$$no arguments from me on this no more to say about it
@groyster1. No arguments here. We've got plenty of unspoiled land, but just like you say, some eye sores in places we might wish otherwise... ---------- Danny
Thanks for your kind comments folks it's very much appreciated. First time video posting is a scary business. Yes critical feedback is important but just to be acknowledged is also cool.
Go for it Ant the Welsh anthem is awesome I'm sure you'd do it justice.
@Harpdude61 Star spangled banner would be pretty cool, get some hendrix bends and your sorted :o)
I always thought national anthems would be a great way to go if you were busking. The Edinburgh festival is always very busy with people from around the world so it would be a pretty good way to please the passers by, of course I'd have to compete with the bagpipes :o)
Cheers Greg ---------- Living the dream and learning the blues one little trouble at a time.
Hey Ant, would like to hear Welsh National Anthem on harp.
Here's my take on 'God Save the Queen' (no not the Sex Pistols version) but the rather dreary British dirge. If I'd had my pick I would have chosen 'Land of hope and glory' or 'I vow to thee my Country' to inspire patriotic zeal. Not that I'm anti-Monarchist, just don't like the tune that much:)
Anyway I've done a Rock/Blues slant on it to try and rescue it. I know Aussiesucker has done the Australian one already.
It's not our National Anthem however it is our internationally recognised song. The video includes some of our friendly & not so friendly creatures. Enjoy.
Unfortunately our current national anthem does not evoke the same hand on heart emotion that most anthems do. Many Aussies favour a change. The majority of Australians don't even know the words to our anthem some of which are quite nonsensical eg 'our land is girt by sea'.
This is I believe our most suitable song for a National Anthem. Every time I hear it I find that my eyes well up with pride. It is often played at major gatherings.
@ Greyowlphotoart, you may not like it the tune but you certainly put some power into it. Pretty Cool. Did you mike into an amp or some kind of pc sound board?
@Aussiesucker, nice work, I do like I am, you are, we are Australian hadn't heard it before but I can imagine it being a good candidate for an anthem.
Cheers Greg ---------- Living the dream and learning the blues one little trouble at a time.
I used a Green Bullet into a Vox Da5 watt amp into my old Fostex X28 4 track then out to line in on my PC (crap on chip sound only) There must be an easier way of doing all this but I haven't figured it out yet:) Grey Owl YouTube Grey Owl Abstract Photos
@Greyowl> before our current Anthem (Advance Australia- dreary dirge) our anthem was the same as yours. No disrespect for the monarchy but I agree with you. Trouble is we replaced one dreary dirge with another. The stirring one the majority of Aussies like & want is 'I am, You are, We are Australian'. Unfortunately it was written 4 years after the musically illiterate chose Advance Australia. They (the govt) think it is far too soon to change our anthem because it's only been in for 27 years.

Nice one Aussie - That made me chuckle - How true. Especially liked the 'musically illiterate' bit)They should give it 3 more years to get to a round number then change to 'I am, You are, We are Australian'which is light years better
It's a shame though when you can't get behind your National Anthem with any conviction because the words suck or the melody is dirge-like.
On the other hand when I hear the Welsh National Anthem sang so enthusiastically by the crowd prior to a Wales - England rugby union match at the Millenium Stadium it gives me goosebumps and I take on Welsh citizenship - well until kick-off that is:) But I always feel we are 3-0 down before we start. Duke >That sounded great. Looks like it was a big show you were playing at?
GreyOwl> yep I can understand the emotion generated by the Welsh Anthem. One of our former Rugby greats John Eales said that he never felt emotion with our anthem but was moved by 'I am You are, We are Australian. Like your idea of us stirring things up for the 30th anniversary and I know our govt would love as many diversions as possible to take the heat off them. In researching the Anthem the most popular choice of the people at the time was Waltzing Matilda but the words were thought inappropriate.
