I really want to record at home. I can do it now either live or with two tracks, but I can't mix everything before sharing.
Ideally, I want to record a clean out from my looper, my amp, a stompbox, and my vocals...that'd be four tracks.
Any advice for appropriate gear withing a reasonable budget? For now, I just use the stereo mics on a Zoom 4hn, but it'd be great to mix levels as sometimes the beatboxing and such out the the amp is weak without a clean signal.
For now, I will have to try and mix the room perfectly, but that sucks. ---------- Mike Quicksilver Custom Harmonicas

One option would be to record into garage band on a mac if you have one. Almost any mac with an intel processor will do- it doesn't hVe to be new. My pal runs his zoom directly into his mac so I know it can be done. You could also dump the files into the computer later after recording into the zoom. You can also overdub into GB after you have your first tracks down. ----------

You can record 4 ext tracks on the h4n, the 2 xlr inputs are actually clever dual plugs which will take a line level 1/4" jack - that's your looper and stompbox covered. All you need would be a cable which to split the external mic input (underneath the mics) into the 2 mono mic channels for - say - close miking the amp and vocals.
