Hi harp people.

I'd appreciate any feedback about my new (2nd) youtube video. It's my attempt at 'Help Me'. A song that every blues harmonica player should be able to play (IMO)

Thanks

Nice work! You've got most of Sonny Boy's licks down and sound good for the time you've been playing.

My suggestion is for the delivery, both vocals and riffs/solo is to lay back a little more behind the beat, a bit more pause befor you deliver it.

When you listen to SB II's delivery, and blues in general, licks and vocals sort of start a little late and "catch up" in time for the next line, at least that's how I describe it.

That quality creates a lot of the mood and tension and emotion of the Blues.

It is an "at wit's end" kind of feel.

Does that make sense?

My only complaint is that you didn't fade out at the end. ;-)

EXCELLENT job, really. I think your tone is fine. If you want to perhaps deepen it, you can try dropping your jaw a bit more while you play to open up your resonating chamber a bit.

I wouldn't worry too much about emulating SBW2's swagger and singing style-that would require copious amounts of alcohol...unless, of course, you want to.

Nick , I think you did a great job . Your singing is not as bad as you think , I actually think you can sing , the problem is that you try to fill with the harp all the gaps and sometimes you don't finish the singing part ,you are thinking ahead of what is next , which is very distracting , for your singing , and it's even more distracting having that camera staring at you.

I would really like to hear a version of the song recorded just the audio , record the vocals first ( tacking your time) and than add the harp after. I think you will hear a big difference.

Nick , are you Tongue blocking?

ps: you sent me an invitation to add it as a reply to my video , but I cannot find it anymore, did you withdraw it somehow?

Thanks everyone for your comments..

@Sorin, I know exactly what you mean about 'filling the gaps'. In my experience as a harmonica player, when you are learning a song you often play alone without any accompanyment and as a result you feel the need to play more than is necessary. This is what happened to me as I was learning 'Help Me'.

Yes I am tongue blocking. Probably I tongue block about 90% of the time.

I'll try to add the video response thing again

Thanks again
