What do you guys think about the difference between the custom wood mics from blow me away VS the ultimate series assuming money is no object i know Jason uses the ultimate and so does Christellester. I love those wood customs but i don't know just not sure any advise.

I've never tried the wood so I can't comment. I love my Ultimate 57. I use a Double Trouble amp and sometimes a Lone Wolf Harp Delay. I am very pleased with this set-up. Even with loud bands I cut thru the mix pretty well.
Keep in mind that various amps, players, styles, harps, effects, and set-ups affect the way the mic sounds.
I'm sure there are many exceptions but it seems like overbending pursers like Jason and Christelle prefer the Ultimate, while TBers like Wilson and Musselwhite prefer the wood.

They are completely different mics. The Ultimate series use a dynamic element and is either an SM58, SM57 or 545. The wood mics have either a controlled magnetic or controlled reluctance element in them. If you like the sound of bullet mics then obviously the wood mic is the way to go. If you prefer stick mics then the Ultimate series are the way to go.

if we are assuming money isnt an issue- you cant go wrong with one of each! seriously- i would think it depends on what type of rig you're blowing thru and what types(s) of music you're playing. give us some more information so we can offer more viewpoints which still wont make your choice any easier.

I thought CMs and CRs *were* dynamic elements, no?

Yes strictly speaking they are, but they are old technology and have different tonal qualities than more modern elements. I'm sure Greg Heumann can give a far better explanation of it than I ever could.

Kingley is correct - CR's and CM's are dynamic elements - however in our world we all refer to them as CR's and CM's because they are special. Most dynamic elements have mylar membranes for diaphragms, and the membrane moves a coil at its outside diameter. CR's and CM's (and some other very old designs) have a metal foil diaphragm and a pin in the center of it is what moves through the coil. Their higher mass lowers their top frequency response and changes what happens when they're overdriven - consequently they have different tone than conventional dynamic mics.
Jorge - An Ultimate 57 is the most versatile mic you can own. Play though it, sing though it, mic the amp, mic the drums...... Nice warm clean acoustic tone, breaks up nicely when cupped. My wood bullets are small in diameter compared to typical Green Bullets and considerably lighter, making them a real joy to hold all gig long. I use "single impedance" CM elements by default in those mics - the kind of element Shure last used in the original Model 520 shell. They are excellent elements, less harsh and warmer than the dual impedance controlled magnetic element of the more recent model 520D, and even more difference compare to the current model 520DX (which has a modern dynamic element.) These mics won't go as clean as the Ultimate 57, but will break up with even more mojo.
Note lots of pros use my wood bullets including Charlie Musselwhite, Kim Wilson, Mickey Raphael, Andy Just, R.J. Mischo, Deak Harp and others.

I like Greg's mics. I own the only Ultimate 544 on the planet. I've played through a multitude of his wooden mics. He rebuilt one of my JT30's.
If you like the way the stick mic sounds, get an Ultimate mic. If you like a bullet, get one of those. You won't be sorry.
