I got my name from a coworker in 2003.
I was playing in a band and had a part in a movie and one of my songs got picked for a spot in the movie.
He just started calling me Mr. Famous and it stuck.

My real name's Jeff. I was given a music name, Bubba, about 25 years ago. It was given to me by one guy, and it stuck.
None of my non-music friends know me as Bubba. Hardly any of my music associates know my real name.

There can be some problems associated with that scenario.

While my son was overseas with the military, he gave me the handle "King Biscuit" for playing on-line games with him. For obvious reasons, I don't use it relative to music, only for computer related stuff. A good friend/guitar player started calling me "Big Danny D" which frequently gets shortened to "Big Dan". Not flashy, but descriptive enough! LOL
