I tried explaining this in another thread and this is the best pic I could snap tonight:

Hopefully you can see the stock cover plate shape on the left and the modded on the right. I hadn't opened the right side all the way, but you can see how much more open it is than stock. You can also see the curved edges vs angled stock.
After getting a rough grinding of each side, I check it on a comb to make sure it look even. Then I do the other plate. Then I do finishing work to touch up any mistakes and polish/buff everything smooth. On a typical GM, I just do the rounded edge, which leaves the lip the same size. I was asked to intentionally open the back on this one for a forum member. ---------- Mike Quicksilver Custom Harmonicas
