Hello fellow harp enthusiast.
First, let me introduce myself. My name is Martin I’m from Montreal and started playing blues harp about two years ago. Even if I had been consulting this forum all that time, I just registered very recently.
Here is my question: Can any one suggest a very easy to use midi sequencer software to create my own backing track via midi keyboards.
I already have midi keyboards but last time I used midi sequencer software, it was on an Amiga 500 with floppy 1.44m disks. Things have changed a lot since then and it looks like now midi software can do so much (including opening the door of your fridge in the middle of your song). Since all need is to record a few tracks (bass, drum and piano) and quantized them all, I prefer using something simple and keep my free time practicing harmonica instead of spending it all trying to figure out a big software.

Any suggestions?

Two I've been looking at lately.

Magix Music Maker

Band in a Box. There is a PC version now.

I'm using Fruity Loops and there is quite a long learning curve. I don't have a keyboard though.

The first two maybe doesn't have the versatility of Fruity Loops, I don't know, but the impression I got was you can use them in a fairly easy straightforward manner and delve deeper into them if you want to.

Check them out on YouTube. You can normally find tutorials if you search for them. You can gauge their complexity then.

You might also look at Acoustica's Mixcraft

There's a DAW (digital Audio Workstation) that I was using called Reaper - it's free, and is very capable. Since I bought a hardware interface and it came with Ableton Live, I've been using that and really like it also, but it's not free. Lots of youtube tutorials on both of those products, which will teach you how to quickly use them, and offers plug-ins/virtual instruments to add to them and easily compose backing tracks.

Hello Lobo... Midi sequencing programs are abundant and range from beginners to very complicated. I think you will have a learning curve no matter what you start with. All my musician buddies I helped dive into computer based sequencing have started with a cheap midi interface that came with a computer program (usually cubase or cakewalk). Anything will get you started, but after a while you will start to find things you wished your system will do. At this point you should start researching a program that can handle all your needs. I use protools, but I've tinkered around with others like... logic, cubase, fruityloops, and keyboards. Good Luck!
