Harmonicanick didn't mention the police. Maybe he was referring to the scads of heavily armed citizenry in the US, lol. ---------- Shane,

@Icemal Yeah chuckle away, and see how we feel with people killed and business's burnt out in 2 nights of looting. Three people killed in Birmingham and one man killed in London; numerous injuries, people homeless through arson and fires burning.
Over 2000 people arrested over the uk and law courts sitting over the weekend and nights.
It is despicable, and there have been moments of outstanding bravery, such as a 60 year old woman stood up to a mob of 200 and screamed at them and they moved on in Birmingham..
A father watched his son die and 2 others again in Birmingham and then pleaded for peace and understanding on national tv.

Hamonicanick, I apologize if my comment seemed insensitive, these are clearly horrible times for England and I think we are going to see more of this all over the world for a while.
Philly has recently put a temporary curfew in place in some areas of town to circumvent the chance of flashmobs and youth violence.
I think what Icemal was speaking to is that police shooting looters on a site is a pretty inaccurate portrayal of how things work in the US.
Police do use tasers, and rubber bullets in extreme cases but I have never heard of an official order to shoot people on sight.
In fact, police shooting civilians is a huge deal and there is always an investigation. ---------- Shane,

These kids need discipline & good roll models, they should make them do National service & teach them some Honor like the guys born in the 1930s have. , learning a musical instrument like a blues harp maybe abit of beat boxing with it would be good.
Most these kids come from family's without a Dad they have no fear from Dad, Teacher, or the Police by the time they get to 30 & work it all out its too late .
+ the growing underclass is continually put down by the media , there's no youth clubs , they listen to negative rap music. Music should never be negative .

Blues is hardly unsullied by sex, violence and boastful materialism... blues is the original gangsta

Mrverylongusername, I take your point but I think there is a big difference .Blues is about getting away from the negativity while Gangsta rap promotes it. a bit of sex violence & boastful materialism never hurt anybody I think they over do it a bit with the gangta rap .

Well I don't want to take the thread off topic, so all I will say is look at the lyrics to a blues standard Muddy's "I'm ready". Bragging, guns (and sexual metaphor), drunken bravado. That's just one song off the top of my head. There are elements of blues that is as gangsta as the elements of hip-hop that draw all the criticism.

I agree with you 100%. I don't think the thread is going off the topic but back on to the topic , seen as it is a blues harp forum
