At our cd release party last night- Lifestyles of the Poor and Infamous- at Cornerstone Pub in North Little Rock, AR, it was announced that Arkansas River Blues society has chosen this cd to compete in a Blues Foundation competition for Best Produced Cd of the year.
AMAZING! not only was the release party a big success and a total hoot, we were picked to maybe get an award in a Blues Foundation category! and to me however that works out, it's a real honor to be chosen even at a local level. since these are the folks we play for and with frequently, it is quite a compliment to be given this honor.
the party itself was really fine. way over 50 people were in attendance with at least 10 who got on stage to jam with the host band and with Jawbone and Jolene as well. we even had a brief visit from a rep from VIRGIN RECORDS! he slipped up on stage and rocked the house for just one song. Unseen Eye out of Hot Springs was the house band. After Jaw and Jo did a set at the very beginning, they took the stage for a time and a few jammers came up. when they took a short break, Jaw and Jo returned and did a short slide set. then the jam began in earnest and things really mixed up well! several keyboard players were in attendance as well as several guitarists, a vocalist or two, and a couple of guest harpmen as well.
the majority who came in paid door cover. quite a few already had cds from a pre-release sale, and more went out last night signed by yours truly and Jolene. donations were made to both the blues society and the local community radio station, KABF 88.3, which hosts all the local blues programming. two of their dj's were in attendance as well.

Chad Carter, the guitar player for the Unseen Eye is my niece Tracy's husband. That band also had a CD release party at the Cornerstone. I hear Chad plays there often. I like that bar. I've been there. I only see Chad about 2 or 3 times a year but I always see him at my sister's Christmas party every year at Little Rock and he usually gives me a harmonica as a present. He's really heavy into blues music and old tube amps and we always talk about blues for an hour or two everytime we see each other.
Anyway, I'm glad your CD release party went well and good luck at the competition.

B-W, Rubes, thanks for the kudos. it is someplace i've never been in over 2 decades of public playing, singing, writing.
DanP, Chad is a dear friend of ours. we pretty much adopted each other about 3 years ago at a local open mic. when we can we include each other in music events and gigs. in fact we were at Unseen Eye's cd release party and did an opener set for the guys.
Chad does the real deal blues in our book. some people don't know how to take him, as some don't know where Jolene and i are coming from, but Chad, and we, know where we're coming from. roots baby!

yesterday we had a message from a gal who had done a write up on us for a local weekly, which turned out very good. she was asking if she and her young son could maybe use some of our cd's music for background in a movie short they're making! which may go absolutely nowhere, but then again who can say? we signed a release for her.
this gal will also do a straight up review of the cd soon.
all these things add up to some great copy for promo purposes at the very least.
we also go to see all the video that was shot at the actual party the other night. there is some very good footage. the sound is ok. now we just need a few $$$ to buy a dvd copy!
