I know--this isn't what anybody wants to hear, but there is a software program called "Band-in-a-Box" that costs under $100 these days (it was about $400 when I got it in 2008)--and, with some work on the learning curve, a person can make acceptable backing tracks for anything in just a couple of minutes.

You can compose, or just use any of the hundreds (maybe thousands) of canned songs already there in the program--and you can add and delete any portion of the tracks that you don't want. By selecting a canned song, then changing it to any of several hundred "styles," you can also make an old standard into your own song very easily. Tempo and key can be changed instantly with a couple of clicks.

I got this program when Chris Michalek recommended it as one of the tools that any serious musician should have.

Like any software, it takes some figuring out and work--if you get it, you'll probably end up thinking I'm an a$$hole for recommending it here--but, if you stay with it, I think you'll find it to be a very valuable tool for making and learning music. It's worth it to me just to be able to sit down and jam to 100's of blues tunes that are there in the program--and you can change them all to the key and tempo of your choice!

Anyway--you can check it out at

Also, MuseScore is a great program for making your own tracks and printed scores, if you wanted to, that is.

It's free and powerful, but won't be of much use unless you understand the dots. If anyone's familiar with Sibelius or Finale then they should have no problem using it.

As for Whammer Jammer, no, sorry, I don't know of any such backing track, but hope the other info may be of use to someone.
