Some of the early Philips mics, especially the bullets, have a rich, clean tone with a really fat bottom end. I have a couple with black bakelite bodies that are an ideal size and also seem to be very resistant to feedback and look great. Some of the no name japanese mics from the seventies and earlier are really dirty and worth a look, but can often be feedback monsters. I do love my collection and enjoy them all, but ultimately, nothing sounds quite like a shure CM.
Hope you enjoy the search! ---------- Lucky Lester
