I'm watching a recording of Amélie (starring Audrey Tautou) at the moment, and imagine how surprised I am to see footage on it of both Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Peg Leg Howell, both mentioned on this forum a few times, if you care to do a forum search of their names. They were both new to me, yet I instantly remembered both of them upon seeing them in Amélie.

I love Sister Rosetta Tharpe's music. She caused quite a stir in her day. It seems that the church establishment didn't like the idea of using electric guitar for praise & worship music. But she did her thing anyways. Great music with passion and soul.

She lived in Philadelphia for a time and is buried there. I've never met anyone who played with her but
maybe someday I will and have some stories to tell.
