I'm opening for a friend's band on saturday in a local pub. It's an Irish Folk band but I'm doing a Blues opening set. I've decided to try to do most of my opening set a solo (harp/voice/foot stomping) set. It's never been done around here so we'll see how people react to it. Here's a tune I've been practicing:
Great to hear some 1st position stuff! I love it. I hope you have a good audience that appreciates what you do.
Only suggestion I have is that it would be good to see you comment on others videos. I myself post and ask for opinions, but I also try to comment on a few of the others when I can. If players, no matter what level, take the time and effort to make a video, post, and ask for response..they deserve one.
I think you are a fine singer and player with a bright future.
First off let me say I REALLY liked that. A lot. Your playing and singing are absolutely spectacular. Here's everything I would tweak:
- I couldnt really make out your stomping. Which helps break up the singing then playing then singing then playing repetition. It helps carry a certain element throughout the song.
- Add more higher notes. I liked the higher parts thrown in for flavor but they felt a little out of place. If there were more they'd feel a little more natural.
That's it. Like I said they're tweaks. You've got a ton of talent and are a very capable musician. All and all it's fantastic stuff. Keep it up.
On a side note, I'd kill to be able to play and sing like this.
I liked it....singing and playing are both good. But as far as song choice, I hope you have Got My Nose Wide Open on your set list. Your version of that was fantastic!! ---------- Tommy
The only thing I see that I would change is there are not enough words to the song. Tell a story about this woman with evil on her mind. Don't just tell us she has evil on her mind. Add more verses to back the comment up.
As Seven mentioned, it would be better if the foot stomping were more audible (I couldn't hear it at all). You might want to think about getting a stomp box, or maybe try micing your foot stomping. Paul Oscher has a mic that he has set up specifically for his foot stomping.
