We mostly discuss the diatonic harp on this forum, but there is exciting new stuff happening on the chromatic too. If you want to hear some great live jazz chromatic playing in a pleasingly accessible style, watch this video by the talented Danish multi-instrumentalist (and Suzuki endorser) Jacob Venndt:

Fast, clean playing with plenty of soul, cool rhythmic variations, harmonically interesting lines, always swinging! Jacob's chromatic playing sounds fresh and appealing to me.

Incidentally, he plays with the uncommon U-Block embouchure...

Very, very cool. What a smooth relaxed player and with massive chops.

Makes me want to practice...

I also U block nearly 100% for single note lines on the chromatic. I think it sounds the best.

Very nice and relaxing. What model is he using, is it a Grégoire Maret?

I know he plays many harmonicas, but there is a particular dark (black?, blue?) chromatic that got my attention. It sounds very jazzy to my ears.

Brendan, would it be the wooden Grégoire Maret?

Thanks GreyOwl for the link tips - much appreciated.

@jaimekike: I think it's mostly the Suzuki GM48 with the dark blue covers Jacob is using.

I U-block too!

I absolutely love Jacobs style of playing. He plays jazz but in a different way compared to the likes of Toots. I like both styles :)

Here's another live jazz chromatic sampler from Jacob. If anything, even better than the last one. I listen and just go "WOW!":
