I've got the ultrasuede from the internet shop and next I'll start the valving process. I've done plenty of valving with regular valves but not with ultrasuede - thus I'd appreciate some advice or links to resources with this method.
From the pictures I've seen that PT method leaves valves a bit shorter than the holes. Is there any other things to consider? The gapping is a bit wider than with regular reed-setup, I guess?

There is a lot of information on valving here on the forum--just do a search on "PT Gazell half-valving" and you'll get a bunch of links to get started with. . . ----------

From http://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/board/board_topic/5560960/793681.htm Here is what PT had to say about the tiny gap. ---------- PT, Nov 23, 2010 It is intended to be that way! That little air slot is important for two reasons: 1) It allows the player to activate the reeds both bent and unbent easier 2) It brings the sound back closer to a non valved diatonic. PT Gazell ---------- "Life...10 Holes & 20 Reeds At A Time" ---------------
Other advise. Make sure you come up with a way to make the values with a consistent width. I use a "Chopper" tool that I got from this website: http://www.nwsl.com/tools/cutting-tools-the-choppers-i-ii-iii

Well, I took ashot on this last night. The material I bought seemed to work well. It was easy to cut with regular squissors and I used a tine bit of superglue just at the end of the valve to attach it. It was really easy to attach to the plate. I guess the valves could have been a bit wider but they were wide enough to cover the whole slots so they worked well. (I used SP20 but the valve width could have fitted MB without any need for filing the comb.)
I did leave a little gap on the end like PT adviced. I put the softer side of the material towards the reedplate (not sure if that was how it was supposed to be used but I thought that way it could cover the slot better as it would have more room to "fit").
The 30cm x 30cm piece of "ultrasuede" I bought cost 10 euros (with postage to Finland) and I think it's enought to cover about 80-100 harps... :) So there's definetly room for some experimentations too.

Btw, the SP20 I half-valved was in powerbender tuning. In playing the valves seem to work really well. However, I have to adjust the gaps in reeds 4-6 that I have accustomed to gap really tight due the OB-setup. The higher reeds seem to work well with the "natural" gaps I use - as do the holes 1-3.
