The backing band is playing on the one chord instead of the five. It does go to the four. Vocally, (to my ear anyway - I would play along with it to be sure) SBW is implying the regular I-IV-V changes.
I think you could comp to this any way you like. I wouldn't play anything different or purposefully stay away from the five chord.
