Ok, I'm going out on a limb here and attempting "Help Me" (no "need help" jokes please). Despite the danger of waving bait in front of Joelee's cave, I'm not afraid of you Joe!!!

I'm putting myself out there all for the cause of learning and critique.
Just bustin' yer balls Joe. lol

On the second solo, it was long and I had no where to go so I screwed it up. Especially after around the 2:50 mark. I was trying stuff I don't know. What better time to experiment right? I had an idea in my head that I got from a Ronnie Shellist video but was playing it by ear and trying to throw an octave into the mix....yikes. Disaster.
I don't get too much practice time due to a hectic schedule.

All in all, I'm proud of it so screw you Joe!! lol

ThanksGreyOwl....I'm still learning; little by little. Sometimes it seems like I learn a lot but then it doesn't come out in the playing somehow...lol.
I find it's like that with everything though .

I got nuthin but time.

I like your vocals, they have a certain quality & authenticity to them.

The harp sounded somewhat "tentative", play every note like you mean it, not like they are just stepping stones to the next phrase, some sounded a little "thrown away". The more you play, the more you will learn to shape notes, let each one tell a story.

Overall a fair effort, the voice does it for me, which is the way it should be (rather than just a vehicle for the harp). I look forwad to more clips.

Thanks 5F6H. Noted. I know what you mean; you're right. Thanks.

Actually the vocal comment surprises me and is good to hear. I just ordered that Roger Love-"Free your voice" book. I want to start working on my vocals. I'm a driving in my car alone singer...lol. I want it to go with my harp some day.

To: TommyTheHat.........
LOL LOL LOL....you got spirit, my man. I am liking you better all the time. (I want you next to me in a gang fight..I think you can probably handle yourself very well).
Now, let's get into the meat of this.
Either by instinct..or whatever, you've inwardly realized that this is one of those 'serious' blues tunes and your projection of it is great. With those haunting eyes you've got and that sincere look straight at the camera, this says.....(like Don Corleone said to Virgil Silottzo..."I heard that you were a serious man, a man to be treated with respect).
This comes off SERIOUS as hell and says in a subliminal way..."dont mess with me woman. I want help and it can be the easy way or the hard way...you pick it".
Your tone isn't fully "bluesed out" yet but that's not worth getting in a twist over. The elegant part of that is it is a pure, ON PITCH tone! (Unlike the banal flounderings of some pups I have met.)
As you continue working in this racket, that tone will become whatever you want it to become. You won't have to go spending valuable time un-doing a lot of bad habits. The licks are fine and you're a natural for this tune.
There are tunes that some people just cannot pull off no matter how they try. I have always played this song letter perfect, etc. etc. but have died with it because it is not a tune I can make seem BELIEVEABLE to the audience.
Of course they dont sit there and analyze this stuff like we do...but instinctively they know when a tune doesn't fit the player.
It fits you and it shows.
I am so much of a clown and showoff in my show that when I tried this, the audiences knew there was a contradiction...therefore I died with it. So, I pulled it out of the act.
I made a point of this to a very fine young harp man here in Atlanta not too long. He's about 25, one of those Italian good looking types (like Frankie Avalon) and there he is standing there trying to do George Smith's "My Life"...it was a total mismatch.
I suggested, as much as it would pain him to do so, to yank that song off the set sheet and be HIMSELF since he didnt have the mileage or wrinkles to "sell" the song. He took my advice and replaced it with "Rockin Robin" and killed the audiences after that.
Thats one of the things I like to coach into someone...do material that reflects the REAL you. And...you have done this here. Excellent!
I JUST LOVE your post!..."screw you JoeLeeBush"! lol lol. Now THAT is funny as it can be....Man, I likes it.
I hope some overzealous moderator doesn't remove it.
Damn...I love this place..LMAO
Stay in touch.
Regards and Stay Happy
Joe Lee
