I have a Shure 520 black label CR with a 250meg VC installed by Austin Vintage with a Planet Waves cable wired direct. The paint was in almost perfect shape when I got it but several years of gigging has taken care of that. The grill is still excellent.
I a few weeks I plan to have the element transplanted into one of Greg Heumann's custom wood body mics.
My question is two fold. I'd like to sell the shell but have no idea what it might be worth with no element. And also whether or not I would get a return on the investment of having a later CM element installed and then selling it.

I know absolutely nothing about vintage mic's. However a product that works is always worth more than one that doesn't.

Why not just put it on ebay with say a $10 starting bid and see what it goes for? In my experience shells alone usually go for about one third (possibly one half) of the price of the same mic with a working element fitted.
