Here's a little video I made this morning. I'm just messing around (playing very sloppily) with Walter Hortons Easy. I'm using a VHT Special 6 amp ( in it's stock configuration) and a JT30 with a Shure CM99A86 element in it and a Marine Band in A. All criticisms good, bad or indifferent are more than welcome.
Kingley, I thought that sounded great. I always like hearing people mucking around with Easy. I am also interested in your setup, have you been using long? I'm sure it's your own tone that's making it sound good however I am on the hunt for a small relatively inexpensive tube amp to start playing at home.
Thanks for the kind words Blocker. I have only had the VHT amp for a short while. It seems to be a great little amp. I'd say that for the money it's a hard amp to beat. It has exactly what you need in a good harp amp.
Hey Kingley, I thought that sounded real good. I agree with others about the tone. But I'm afraid I will have to be the one to add a bad...lol. Nahh, not really. To be honest I didn't really find anything bad; but there was this little 3 note thingy that played throughout the song that just sounded like something else and it was distracting to me. I finally figured it out though.
At 14 seconds you begin these 3 notes and to me, it sounds like the portion in the American National Anthem that goes "by the dawns early light." It's the 3 notes that sing "by the dawns." And those three notes repeat throughout your rendition.
Then again maybe its just me. Like I said...I liked it. But those three notes just kept moving my ears away from the song for 3 notes every now and again.
Thanks for the kind words Tommy. Lol! Those notes weren't played intentionally to sound like the American National Anthem. Sorry if that spoilt it a little for you.
I'm just bustin' on ya Kingley. I know you didn't play that intentionally. It didn't bother me, it was just 3 notes that kept making me say...."that sounds familiar." Ever have those moments? But like I said...real good sound and playing. I'll be proud when I can play half as good. ---------- Tommy
And I think Tommy's onto something-you're a closet American. I'll get those naturalization papers in the mail pronto. I can teach you how to say 'y'all' with conviction, too. Oh, and pudding isn't sausage here. It's pudding. Sausage is sausage.
My tongue is firmly in my cheek. ---------- Todd L. Greene
Yessssssssss now there's a man who knows how to lay it down! Very nice work Mr. Kingley with an outstanding tone. I am impressed how you hold your head up high with pride and confidence instead of hanging it down, staring at the floor, like many whipped puppy harp players. As usual I must comment on stage presence. I see you look as if you do exercises to strengthen your forearms and the ladies can see those muscles. They LOVE it. That is all a part of your presentation and you're on the right track. Anyone denying that sex appeal isn't a big part of an act is still, shall we say, "living ideals from the 70's and 80's which have failed". The ladies are not turned on by pasty skinned wimps and pot bellies. You project manliness and an exciting confidence in your playing. Outstanding work...dont worry about "doing any plowing". Mister, you already GOT YOUR crop! Regards and keep it up. Joe Lee
Tommy the Hat, you gotta listen to more versions of Big Walter's songs, he did that all the time, quite often staying on those 3 notes as quick triplets.
Kingley, Nicely done! Great all around everything!
