I am primarily a diatonic Player and recently bought a couple of used chromatics. I would like to clean/disinfect these before play and wondered if there as a good wahy to clean with out taking them apart and if not, can i take the apart without screwing them up (springs for slide if there are any) etc? Thank you for any help in a advance!

If they're plastic and used send them back to hohner for an overhaul and tune up. If they're used the valves are probably shot. You'd be amazed what this does for a chromatic.

You sure can take them apart. Remember to note how the slide assembly is put back together.

Diggs is right. If the harp is old, the "Windsavers" are probably crap. Replacing them is easy and cheap.

DO NOT GET THE COMB WET. You don't want that baby to swell and crack. You'll see why when you take it apart. (Much more complex than a diatonic. In fact I can guess that that is where most of the Cost comes from)

I've taken the slide assembly apart on a Hohner 270. In about 2 seconds I lost one of the spacers that the screws go through. I didn't know they were there. They look like tiny pieces of copper or brass tubing. As soon as you lift off the top mouthpiece, they will fall out.Very hard to find and critical to the slide operation. Let my screw up be your caveat. Work over a surface so they don't fall on the floor and are lost forever.

Thanks all for the response. Diggs, Hohner won't do same to a wood comb super chrom? They really seem fine and in great sahpe as if someone played professionally with them or a high end hobbyist.

Well in the old days wooden 270s they would just send you a new one at a reduced price. No matter who plays it the wind savers go bad. I would call hohner.
