I did a set of just me and the harp. As I listened back during the mixing process I realized having ones own style is basically dependent on these factors. All the notes have been done, it is just how you put them together. Walter
make your own sound
wish I could take back the pain Ive gived
how tall will you grow
everybody got their time
interupted by the phone
stay on your own road
watching the bird feeder
some 1 man band songs from today

Amen Walter! That's one of the reasons I've always liked Little Walter: some of his phrasing reminds me of a kayak coming up to a waterfall and hesitating for just a bit before cascading through all the rapids; and Sonny Terry for minutely changing the values of his note lengths. Little Walter's changes of tone impress me too..changing the volume of internal cavity he's workin' with.. opening nose, throat, etc. It's great to have those variables!

Hi LittleBubba: One constant I see in most players is they rehash the same old riffs and don't come up with their own creations. Their playing is top notch but that is the easiest part of the puzzle. Cut and paste and paint by the numbers is what most do. One has to let go and drift to find their own sound. That seems to be the easiest thing to do but for some reason most people struggle with that. Walter, I believe it is because playing what the Greats play tends to feel like you are doing a good job. A shy person might be more likely to play little Walter licks than their own because, well.... Little Walter licks are proven to be good.
But music is subjective. And even if you don't have the "proven" licks, you can still rock the crowd with some good home grown enthusiasm. ;)

well walter, what if one's own deep inner song is one that sucks?
just thinking.....
if so, have fun recycling licks cause you still are making music and having fun.

I have concluded lately I am not a musican. What I do is not what musicians do. We share the same tool box but build totally different things. Sorry for mentioning this stuff. It is best to let my songs do the talking. Walter ---------- walter tore's spontobeat - a real one man band and over 1 million spontaneously created songs and growing.
