Featuring special heavy duty chrome reed plates that spec out to 2.25 mm thick,
the new 225 Deuce and a Quarter harp produces thick rich tones that
will stand up to abuse longer than most any other harmonicas.  This
heavy duty harp feels great in your hand and has a loud voice that
really projects making it perfect for Blues and Rock. The “Deuce” is a
custom harp designed for players that are ready to rock and who want to look really good while doing it.  It is available in a limited
quantities and only in the key of A (to accompany jams in the key of E,
which is most guitar players favorite key). This harp features special
black cover plates and a black plastic carrying case with custom Deuce
& a Quarter graphics.   Available while limited supplies last.

Haven't heard of this one. Reminds me of a Suzuki Hammond. Would love to get a review of this thing.

TNFrank loved his Deuce and a Quarter harp : )

PS. I wouldn't exactly take that as a recomendation.

Also, am I the only one that thinks that "deuce and a quarter" is a ridiculous name for a harp?

I have a Deuce and a Quarter, and it is just an MS, which is on a Blues Harp comb, and has the Silver colored reed plates that come on the MS Meisterklass, or something similar, and black coverplates with the 225 wording and logo on it.

The word Custom, can mean a lot of thing, but to me, here on MBH, it means that there has been extensive reed work and tuning done on it. This is not the case here in my Opinion. Duece and a Quarter refers to the thickness of the reed plates, but you have to put both of them together to get that reading. Isn't Marketing a wonderful thing?

It is a nice looking harp, though, and I will sell mine for $1000. LOL. I will even customized it for you at no extra charge.

Of course, but I have to get permission from Mike Newell, since hs has now registered his name, and it is a legal TradeMark.

I have a deuce and a quarter at home, but has four wheels and a BIG ol' buick engine under the hood. does that qualify....lol or what if I take my meisterklass apart and put the reeds on one of my blues harp combs.... would that work?... do the thicker reeds really help that much?

@harmonicanick - you beat me to it! I was ready to buy 4 or 5 simply to look faaaaaaabulous while playing, or merely basking in their reflective coverplate glow and charisma. I'm cancelling my plastic surgery appointment, and buying a Deuce and a quarter instead!

The marketing on this one smells like "Biker bar harp".

Can somebone who wears a sweater vest and tie under a wool coat play a "Duece and a Quarter" and not be called a poser?

I got an email from one of our most famous ex members who wants to chime in on this discussion. Here are his exact words:

"The reed plates ARE NOT 2.25 mm thick as is listed in the info on this harp. IIRC when I measured mine they were the 1.10 mm thick plates, which are thicker then the standard .90 mm but no where near as thick as advertised. They're nice little harps, kind of like a Pro Harp or Blues Harp with the wooden comb. I sealed mine with Butcher's Block Oil and it's been working without any problems for all the time that I've had it".

Oh how I miss the musings of TNFrank.... ;)

If I remember correctly the 2.25 mm reedplates that constitute the "deuce and a quarter" namesake are the measurements of BOTH reedplates together. That would make each reedplate 1.125 mm in thickness- thicker than many but nothing too extreme. I believe they are thinner than the Hering 1923 reedplates which spec out to 1.20 mm or so. The thicker reedplates often make for easier bending, but due to the wider swing of the reeds the reeds are susceptible to blow out much quicker if you play too hard.
