A while back I think Adam was recommending the Electro-Voice N/D468 for miking amps (I seem to recall reading this on his "AMPS for sale" page). But tonight I saw his recommendation for the Sennheiser Evolution e906. Did he switch from the EV to the Sennheiser, or did I get something mixed up? kudzurunner, if you happen to read this post, could you clue me in?

The e906 is a really great little mic and not very expensive. I think they're $89 new.
I first came across one at Cafe Wilhelmina in Einhoven, Holland in 1991. First time I'd seen a mic that appeared to be designed to hang in front of an amp. No need for a stand, which is great when space is tight. The club has bands several nights a week. I played there several times over a 13 year period and they always had that same mic on my amp. Speaks volumes for reliability. ---------- LSC

Looks like the e906 goes for $189 at the online stores. Like BlueDoc, I'm interested in Adam's response to whether/why he switched. Last year, the ND 468 was better than sliced bread.
That being said, like all of us, Adam is probably locked in the eternal search for better, fatter, easier tone and tries new hardware all the time. Perhaps the ND 468 was the best mic for the job when he started using it and the e906 came along and upped the ante.

Oops, senior moment there. I was thinking of the e609. I'd not actually heard of the e906 so I did a search. It seems the consensus is that the e906 is very similar to the e609 except the e906 has a presence switch and is more expensive. e609s are all over Ebay at $100 or less. Pretty hard to beat a Sennheiser mic that sounds good, is easy to drop into the gig bag, is reliable, designed to hang on the front of the amp and can be had for a c-note or less. ---------- LSC

I will say that I have a Sennheiser e609 and it is a very good mic too. I can do some gigs with my '57 Champ with this mic and just crank the lows on the board a bit to get a very nice sound. -Bob

But, most gigs I take my Super Cruncher. Line out to the board and rock. -Bob

Not all of us. I stopped chasing hardware and started playing more. I've got plenty of stuff that is sitting on the shelf unused. My goal is to get out and use the stuff that I have more frequently.

our sound guy does not use mine much.
if you are recording you want more control on location, both where on the speaker and how far out. a mic on a stand is still better at that
