I know Son of Dave mics his foot for a bass drum as well as beat boxing. I know others use actual pieces of gear to accomplish this. I am hoping someone can point me to some resources for both styles.
I've been working on a OMB thing for about a year and am at a level where it would be nice to have a bass drum without having to beatbox. That way, for example, I can stop a loop but keep the "drums" going. I hope that makes sense. ---------- Mike Quicksilver Custom Harmonicas

Hi Mike. I was just in your area and almost got out to see you at Neumann's. Next time.....
I've been messing around with the OMB thing as well. I went the Cajon drum with a reversed bass pedal route.
I got a bonus at work and instead of building a Cajon I bought one from Kopf Percusion. It has a padded seat, two heads, one with internal snare and one without. It has a sound hole like a guitar that can be mic'd. Also came with a nice bag to carry it in.
I slip an 8" wooden ring tamborine over my left foot (like George Bensens bassist did) with my right foot using the bass pedal backwards, striking the pedal with my heel. I'm having fun with this. I'll post something on youtube in a few weeks.
I got the DeUno (La Peru)snare (the price has gone up a bit but Steve makes an amazing high quality product - I am not affiliated with Kopf, simply a very satisfied customer):

Too bad I missed you! The more reading I do, I think I am after a "stomp box". I see a few in the $100-200 range that have pickups, etc. While not in dire need, I see where it is something I'd eventually pick up if I start gigging like this.
The hardest part for me has been the timing of loops. I've gotten a lot better, but every once in a while I am just a fraction off on the looper. I've done a handful of tunes with the looper live with not issues, but I limit the overdubs. Although not exactly where I want to take it, I've been woodshedding Son of Dave just to get the timing and changes down cold.
