There's been some posts lately asking about keyboard amps and 15" speakers for harp.

Well, last week I walk into a club where a band that had invited me to sit in was supposed to be playing. But a different band was there, a trio with an acoustic guitar played through a elaborate pedal board, a bass guitar and a drummer with an electronic kit. I sat through the last 2 songs of the set and was about to leave when the drummer comes up to me telling me about how he's so glad I stopped in and he'll plug me into his amp, etc. Apparently I'd played with the guy at some blues jam and he liked my playing and wanted me to sit in with his band. So, since I had been planning to sit in with the band i thought would be there, I figured, what the hell, why not.

Anyway, the drum kit was being played through a Roland keyboard amp with a 15" speaker. The drummer plugged me into one of the 1/4" inputs on that amp (I used an IMT since i have a low z mic). Very decent sound for harp. The amp was behind the drum kit so i couldn't reach it to tweak the EQ but the tone was pretty good anyway. Not a distorted Chicago sound by any means, but very decent clean sound for harp with nice depth of tone. The highs were a little too emphasized for my taste, probably because this amp has a horn tweeter. But if i would have been able to adjust the EQ i probably could have fixed that. Overall, though, I was favorably impressed. I'm not going to run out and buy one, but I'd be happy to play through one again.

Btw, even though i use a low z XLR mic, if i go into an amp that has both an XLR input and a 1/4' input, i always use the 1/4" input with an IMT. My experience is that it sounds better for harp than using the XLR input, but I'm not sure why this is so.

after reading on richard hunter's site about a very good rig, i wondered why playing thru a keyboard amp gets hardly any mention.
the main attraction to his rig is the digitech 355.
there are some youtube vids, i think, of him getting quite a wide spectrum of sounds.

the entire rig is way cheaper than some of the most sought after amps.
