Personally I usually don't appreciate women blues singers (with a few exceptions). But Willie Mae is one of my very favs. Her harp tone is damn good ,too!
I love Big Mama Thornton's album with the Muddy Waters band from 1966. She's an incredibly powerful singer and makes me almost shudder in fear when she sings "Big Black Rat." I downloaded it a few years ago, but honestly I didn't know she played harp! Maybe because Cotton is playing harp on this record. Got any suggestions for another CD of hers I should get? Jordan
I love Big Mama! She had such a huge voice and she could hang with the big boys too. Check out this video of her with John Lee Hooker, Big Walter Horton and Dr Ross.
