Thanks Diggs for the link. To my ears definitely one of the more authentic sounding 60s British acts when they played blues and r'nb. He certainly must have woodsheded in the 70s though - his playing in The Blues Band 15 years later is much more competent.
Nice one Lumpy. I like Paul Jones, a real blues afficianado. He was an early inspiration for me from a UK angle. I recall his pop/rock hit 5,4,3,2,1.
Also The Rolling Stones 'Little Red Rooster' featuring another Jones, Brian, I believe.
There wasn't much harp work on mainstream songs at that time in the UK, so it was good to hear.
The harp playing on these songs wasn't mind blowing but they sure were inspirational and acheiveable when you've just taken up the instrument. Good memories.
It wasn't a blues set, and they were fighting against the sound system all night. Couldn't really hear the harp for most of it although he was only playing 'stabs' and fills in unison with the sax until Do wah Diddy and 54321 right at the end. An enjoyable night in the rain though. the support was wishbone ash who had much better sound, but were not really to my taste. ---------- "Come on Brackett let's get changed"
I saw Paul Jones with The Blues Band about 10 years ago - The Hamsters supported. I really enjoyed the gig. When I was starting out, he was a player I listened to a lot.
I used to listen to the Paul Jones Radio show religiously - not so much now.
