Sorry Sonny, Its been "coming soon" for 3 years not and the Satan and Adam documentary even longer. I believe the problem is finding a distributor. Apparently, making the movie is the easy part. Getting it distributed and advertised is a whole 'nother animal. ----------

I bet if they blew up stuff in this movie it would already be out. Who's to say the greats never blew anything up?

I don't understand. They could offer this as a download on so many formats. DVD, iTunes, etc. On a flick that's already made, movie companies do nothing but drain the bottom line, with exception to marketing. Seeing as this is going to be taken up by harp players, I don't see where the movie guys fit in.
My advice: Get endorsements from big name players and put it out. Go viral on marketing. It's (almost) free.

Well Steve. I don't know, But, I believe that this is an independant film which means that somebody, probably the director himself) financed the bulk of the film themselves. Probably went as far as to put a second mortgage on their house and probably convinced some family and friends to invest. The hope being that they could market it to a movie studio and either sell it or get a share of the take. Therefore getting paid back the initial investment and even make a profit. Going straight to DVD or iTunes without a national marking campaign means they certainly wouldn't earn back their initial investment.
Last I herd the movie was making its rounds at film festivals and harmonica events around the country. So I suppose there is still hope that it could get picked up. A lot would depend on timing. What if next year a band featuring harmonica become an overnight success and goes platinum. Bet the film would get picked up then. ----------

Well, you know, even with the relatively small harp community, you can make an impact. How do people like Justin Bieber and other YouTube acts make it? People watch those videos and they become popular and they are moved to the front of the line for more exposure. If we could figure out how to get our hands on the trailer for this movie and use social media to put it out front for a few months, there would be a cross-over effect and people in media would notice something like that. It would take a concentrated effort at first, but if it was truly marketable to anyone else other than us, some mainstream audiences will take notice and push the views and ratings up and start to demand the release of the film. Distributors don't distribute stuff they don't think they can make money on, so you do need to show them there are enough people demanding it to justify the expense of releasing something like that.
Sirius XM channel 70 (Bluesville) would be another avenue worth approaching. They are very interested in preserving the blues in historical and modern forms, and may be able to aid in some way, even if it was to direct supporters to industry pros who may be able to help. There is a chasm in the entertainment world between film and music, and they don't always know what's happening on the other side of the fence. Getting some music people involved could help.
Just letting the movie maker know that we are interested in helping would be a start, and they may already have a plan on how to increase awareness and market the film. If you are interested in pursuing it, it's going to take some footwork to get in touch with the people and find out what you can do. I don't see it differently than any other thing in life. If you really want something to happen, it takes effort. Wishing rarely works outside of fairy tales. We could help, but someone has to put feet on the ground to get things rolling so we know how to help.

I saw a version of Pocket Full of Soul last summer at Sonny Boy Terry's Down Home Texas Harmonica Festival in Houston. Don't think that it was the completed version, but it was a darned good documentary. By the way, round two of the Down Home Texas Harmonica Fest will be on July 30. They'll have a clinic too. Adam conducted last years and Ronnie Shellist will hold court at this one. It's not to be missed.
