As a blues player I've tuned my harps for years to a tuning scheme that I got from a prominent customizer. It was a good compromise tuning for first, second and third...decent chords in second. What I liked about it was that each note was expressed as 442, 443 or whatever...rather than by cents up and down. This was really effective and simple to use. Unfortunately, I've lost my working copy. Even though I know I have more copies of it somewhere they are not to be found today.

Does anyone have a good scheme that they'd be willing to share here?

Thanks,
Jay

There is no such thing! Its a comprimise.
Tune the blow 2 5 and 8 holes 5 cents flat.
Tune the draw 3 5 7 and 9 holes 5 cents flat.

Here's mine.

2 blow and 3 draw about 10 to 15 cents flat
Everything else I leave ET

That gives good draw and blow chords on 1,2,3,4. but leaves my upper end good for my straight harp tunes and my 3rd position tunes.

If you play only second position, then try something else.

Have a look here.
I used 7Limit but changed to 19Limit as its great for 1st,2nd and 3rd positions.

I can't find it right now, but I seem to recall Brendan Power writing something about the Suzuki compromised tuning scheme. It was very simple. Like the Thirds and Fifths were tuned to -5 cents and everything else was ET. It may have been -8 cents... I don't remember.

Does anyone else remember seeing that?

Suzuki comprimise tuning is all the 3rds on the blow and draw are tuned 5 cents flat and everything else is ET. The link 7LJI put up is the tuning listing that I posted and that's there as well.

if you only play 1st,2nd and third position is there an advantage to 19limit over 7limit,which is vintage tuning if Im not mistaken

Yes and correct !

The 7Limit, 5 draw sounds a wee bit flat in 3rd pos.
19Limit raises this note in pitch.9 draw too

Its the only difference between the 2 tunings.

The chords sound fine for 1st and 2nd with either tuning.
