This has been brought up before and I have re-read some of our previous discussions. I have more than one of each in the same keys and before last week all I had done was gapping to the two instruments. I finally took a crossover in "C" apart and embossed the thing. After that I found it to have the bright brassy tone that the Marine Band is known for. In fact, the harp would play with such little air and would bend easily with very light force, which ain't real world playing I know. So then I took my Manji in "C" apart to do the same. You gotta be real careful because the tolerances are so tight that you can lock up a reed in one stroke if you're not careful. I wonder if it is even worth the effort really. My conclusion is that after all is said and done that the Manji is louder and the Crossover is more brassy. The Manji is more ergonomic to me also. Have you noticed what has happened to the pricing of the Manji's afer the disaster? After all of this I'm still tore down between the two.
BB, is the Manji your go to harp now?
