Hey Walter - I always like to listen to your songs. I have this question: how do you get the title ? is it spontaneous too ? before you sing the song ? after ?
just curiosity :)
thanks!

hi mikolune: thanks for listening! When I am mixing the songs to wave files I listen through each one doing a bit of mastering. This takes anywhere from 2 seconds to a few minutes per song. I name them from something I hear in the song. While the song is mixing down I check the few forums I frequent. I am waiting on a song to mixdown as I type this note. I have no idea what is going to come out of my mouth when I play. I follow along with the song the same way you do when you first listen to it. The only difference is I am playing it. It is the total unknown. I love that and am hooked for life. I had a revalation last night talking with Nigel Price, an author from england doing a book on my life, that I am not a musician. What I do is the total flip side of what music is defined as in our world. What I am a is time traveler that uses instruments and voice to journey to new adventures. I know that sounds out there but it is very comforting realizing I am not trying to fit in the music box anymore. Walter

Hi Walter,

I wonder - did you ever try to teach your approach ? In theater for example, there are various improvisation methods and styles that started out as looked upon as fringe and strange, but have become well accepted as people started teaching this. You clearly have a great gift here.

hi mikolune: I would love to teach this to others. So far you are the first who has asked about teaching spontobeat. I have had lots of people want to learn the harp, guitar, 1 man band, singing, but that doesn't interest me. There are a million people out there doing that already and could do it much better than me. I have done the conventional rehearse, repeat, approach and I can say that the spontaneous one will take you to places that the other never will. It is an out of body while still in body experience that travels you to different times, places. You become a time traveler and will become the song and experience all the sensations because you are living it. It is very addictive and the source of inspiration is endless because it taps into the energy band that is mankinds existance from before time began to the infinitey of the future. I dig the idea of the theater analogy. Walter

Walter, may be you could advertise teaching it, propose classes explicitly. One difficulty I see is that it would require people getting all the gear and also have a reasonable amount of proficiency in the different instruments. I can play only a little harp and some egg shaker, but I think I'll try it out :)

mikolune: Thanks for the idea! Organizing such an event is not in me. If you are inspired I am ready to do it. Your fee would be free entry. I am located in central ohio but could travel anywhere in the summer months. You are also invited to come by here for free. I have a hard time charging for something that is as easy to do as breathing the air. Walter

How far along is this book??? I definitely want a copy. If its half as interesting as your songs and posts are, it will be a great read!!!

Oh and what would one have to do to get a signed copy?

mikolune: I hope we get to meet up!
XHarp: The book is pretty much done. I saw a mob hit when I was 9 and the hit man tried to kill me. Long story short, I called the police station in Bellville NJ and told them about it. That was about 10 years ago. I was doing therapy for my PTSS due in big part by my parents denying it ever happened. The simply told me to stay around the house and it was never spoken about again. That freaked me out and led to a life of violence, drugs, and high risk actions. The police took my statement because there is no statue of limitations on murder. they said they would be in touch but never got back to me. After repeated calls to the capt, he got on the phone and said - drop it. I figure if the guy was in his 20's he is 11 years older than me. It may take a few more years till he is dead. That and some other stuff that would kill my parents dream world of what my life was like is going to keep it on ice till they die, which shouldn't be very long. NIgel told me you never know where a book will end up. Plus we keep adding to it. Hopefully it will be out someday before we both die :-) Walter
