Well, I found the song by the Fabulous Thunderbirds titled Going' Away Baby with Kim Wilson on harp.

This one is pulling me to decifer and play it. So for however long it will take me, which I expect to be quite a while, I will be working on it and posting results now and then.

My first contribution is the first opening riff:

1D, 2D, 2D, 3D' 2D, 3D', 2D, 3D' 2D, 2D (there is a tumble down after the 2D that I think starts at 4D but I am not yet sure then it goes into what I believe are triples that I am working on next).

I am pretty sure I got that portion correct but I reserve the right to make revisions! You will have to learn the timing to get it to sound right.

Harp is in the key of C.

Is it "Jimmy Rogers Day" or something? ;-)

The song was written by James Lane, not Jimmy Rodgers.
That sounds about right so far-keep working and chart your progress. Great tune to work on!!

Can you play this song? This is a cool one to be able to play the harp portion and sing in between the bars.

I was wondering where the Jimmy Rogers reference came from.

James A Lane AKA Jimmy Rogers ("Jimmy" with a "y" not "ie", "Rogers" without a "d".

JimmIE RoDgers was the yodling cowboy, who was NOT the mainstay guitarist of the early Muddy Waters band & did not record, "Walkin' By Myself, Ludella, Goin' Away Baby"...etc., etc.,...

Nothing wrong with a Jimmy Rogers day. He was great! I miss that guy. I saw him every chance that I got. Very few could deliver a tune like him.

5F6H You are indeed correct. He wrote that song under James Lane and I did not realize the AKA.

The version I learned to play and sing it from is on Clapton's "From The Cradle" and I think it's Jerry Portnoy on harp. Steve Guyers version will give you some food for thought on it too.

Edit; Am I thinking of the same song? Forgive me I am under the influence.

Yes-Clapton does it with Jerry Portnoy on harp-don't know about Steve's version.
Zadozica-I have not played this, but will give it a go at the next jam, with a video.

"Goin' Away Baby" sounds remarkably similar to SBWI's "Lord, Oh Lord Blues" (1938)...

James A. Lane was the real name of Jimmy Rogers, a blues musician both Kim and I have worked with. The other guy, Jimmy Rodgers, is a country artist better known for a tune called Honey Comb. 56FH has that right. Gigging with Jimmy was an awesome experience,

A lot of tunes recorded by Chess artists descend from artists that recorded for the Bluebird label. There are a ton of great tunes in the Bluebird catalog.
