Folks, please bear with me as this will take a bit of explaining. I had a pretty decent sounding 59 Fender Bassman RI 4x10 (with Copper Cap rectifier). I had it moddded for harp, swapped a couple of the Jensen 10 inch speakers out for Webers. I sold it and been regretting it ever since. I own a Epiphone JR V3. I moddded it for Harp, put a 10" Jensen speaker in, Line out, Sag Mod, and anti-feedback circuit (low pass filter on in-put). The Epiphone jr is the TONE POT.... I now sit the Epiphone Jr on top of a Fender Blues Deluxe (harp modded- 1-10" Jensen/ 1-12" Celestion 80 watt speaker from a Marshall 4x10 Cab). I plug into the input of the Epiphone Jr with a Mic ( Hohnner Blues Blaster) I had moddded by R. Harley of SUKM MICS East Pointe Michigan (R. Harley..... yeah Ron... I'm talking about Sassy Blu!). I take the line out signal from the Epiphone Jr V3 and I connect it to the POWER AMP INPUT of the Fender Blues Deluxe. WHOOOOOAAAA. Best Harp sound I have ever heard in person. More Balls, break up, and syrupy honey dripping tone that the Bassman ever even came close to. Loads of volume before feedback. Even the sag sound is carried through and amplified with the line out signal. Please note that the level is now controlled by the Volume knob of the Epiphone Valve Jr. v3. By the way, I am using a 12aY7 in the Valve Jr. That allows me to have the sweet spot before feedback at about 2 O' clock. I can also increase the the volume by increasing the size of the line out signal as i have a rheostat knob to control the output of the line out. I have the line out knob at about 9 o' clock. Basically, I'm using the Epiphone Jr as a
preamp. Because I'm using the line out (not speaker out)I still have the 9 Inch Jensen of the Epi Jr, working in unison wwith the fender Blues Deluxe 12" Celestion and 10" Jensen. Note: By going into the POWER AMP INPUT I bypasssed the fender blues deluxe preamp section. So with nothing in any of my two normal inputs, the Master Volume /volume knobs don't work. I basically just stumbled on this. In the past I had used a Holmes Harp Commander in the poweramp in, and it sounded so thin I forgot all about it. I was due to have the Fender Blues Deluxe optimised a bit better for harp, with some CAP work, put a sag resistor mod in.... but now I'm not gonna bother. The key to the whole thins is the combination of the MIC, the Epiphone Jr as preamp (with it's speaker adding to the sound!) and the power section of the Fender Blues Deluxe. I must add that putting two seakers in the Fender Blues Deluxe gives it soooo much BALLS and you don't have to struggle with the weight of a Fender Bassman. In my honest opinion... it knocks the socks off any Bassman or I have ever heard. Including YOUTUBE. Not trying to get into a slinging match, so I say again in my honest opinion. To tak ethis one step further, I called Skip Simmons up (well respected amp master from California). I explained to him what I "lucked up on" He called me the "Big BOSSman" for getting clued in to something that a lot of Big players who know about tone and harp set ups been doing for years. If you got an amp with a power amp in, try to get a smaller amp that really gotthe tone you like... and feed that tone into the power amp in section of an amp that got a abit of BALLS. I'm sure some of you already know about this,BUT I had to go into details for the folks who were interested. Cheeers.. Fewclothes in England (by way of Louisiana)

Hey Few, this sounds interesting. I sounds like you're plugging the line out of the EVJr into the "Return" of the effects loop of the Fender? If so, are you getting good volume, because I tried this on a Fender SS amp by plugging a Harp Attack into Return on the effects loop but found that I couldn't adjust the volume of the Fender at all, and what I got was very quiet. Maybe just something about that particular amp.

Hi Few I know who you are.

I bought your Bassman Remeber??

Still the best Amp I own by a country mile.

I think we all could do with a vid to show us what you explained in so much detail.

So how about it.

You could get Giles to help again.

Hey Fellas,
Joshnat- On my Fender Blues Deluxe, besides the normal two inputs, I have inputs for POWER AMP IN, PREAMP OUT, and FOOTSWITCH. I'm plugging the Epiphone Valve Jr into the POWER AMP IN input.

OXHARP- Hey Russ... how ya doing man? Bud yeah gotta tell ya that my new set up floors the Bassman. It was one nice sounding Amp, and I have been looking trying to get something close to it. But the Epiphone JR that I got from you! (small world).. I have modded this little puppy and it is a tone monster. In all honesty, the beauty of the whole things is that, I am bypassing the preamp section of the Fender Blues Deluxe putting a decent tone to the two 6L6 power tubes and the tubes really seem to be cooking (I assume do the lack of having to deal with the preamp section) and wth the speaker enhancements I have made on both amps.... I gotta also say that I havent gigged this set up yet. I will be doing so this Saturday nite. It all sounds awesome in my Garage( OXHARP- I aint knocked the door off the tracks since you picked up the Bassman!) But he proof will be when I gig it with the full band. It's a pity OXHARP Ipswich and Oxford aint a bit closer for logistics man. But If it all goes well, I'll maybe get Giles to put this on YOUTUBE for me. He is soon over in Belgium. Gonna be doing some stuff with the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Saw him over the wekeend.

As you said the gig will be the acid test. Some of the greatest amps I ever played through in my living room just couldn't cut it in the real world of live gigs. My favorite gigging amps do not sound good in my living room at all!
All the best,
Jay

I used the the Epiphone Jr v3 into FBL power amp input on Saturday nite with the full band. It was great. No problems. All the good tone, volume, feedback control I was able to do in my garage, was actually even better out when we played live. Finally, I got the set up I been looking for.
