It's the last day of April, three weeks before Hill Country Harmonica. I thought it was time for an update.

Last year we had, when all was said and done, 100 registrants (player/students) and 25 significant others. At least 10 of those registrants showed up on game day. Many others signed on in the last three weeks.

At this point, we have 94 registrants and 18 significant others. We are, to say the least, ahead of last year. It's going to be a party.

All of our scheduled teacher/performers have checked in and will be there. Sterling Magee and his crew will be flying into Memphis Airport on Friday morning; I'll be there to pick them up at around 7:40 AM. If you're flying in or driving through and want to be part of the welcoming party, be my guest.

Scott Balcerek, the producer/filmmaker of the Satan and Adam documentary, is coming to HCH with a crew of 5 or 6.

A second filmmaker is also coming. He's working on a documentary about harmonica players and would love to interview you on camera, if you're willing.

The new Satan and Adam album, BACK IN THE GAME, has been mastered and is being manufactured as we speak. It will be released on Friday, May 20th at the crossroads. I will have LOTS of copies on hand (several hundred), so if you want a copy signed by Sterling and me, you'll be able to get one.

Deak Harp's show on Thursday night in Clarksdale at Red's Lounge--one of the last of the real juke joints--is full steam ahead. I'll be opening as a one-man band, Deak will play as a one-man band, his band will play, and there will be--I've been told--a VERY special guest. Who shot a photo of JR? My lips are sealed.

Alex Paclin will be flying in and Brandon Bailey will drive him down to HCH.

P.T. Gazell will definitely be there on Saturday.

We've prayed to the loas and the tornadoes have promised that they'll stay away.

On the other hand, it may be warm and could quite possibly be humid. On still another hand, there might be hooch. (I can't vouch for hoochie.)

We hope we see you there.

Both HCH's have been at times where it would be impossible for me to miss work. SPAH too. Seriously any other times would work. There are 52 weeks in a year and I am only booked for two of them.

I'll be there, staying with my old pal Dan Ridgeway. I plan to stay up late drinking good bourbon and playing/talking/thinking/living/breathing harmonica.

Hallelujah Dan Gage. I am bringing Bourbon as well. While I claim no talent like you two, I am willing to jump in as a third Dan (Danny), especially if you guys will be hanging out at Foxfire late. I'm sure we can find another Dan or two who also enjoy Bourbon and late night playing.

Nice! I DO like Annie's libations as well. smmmmuh...smuuuuuh..*cough*...*hic*... smooooooooooth. I had already purchased some whiskey for "Joe Lee," but he sadly will not be attending HCH2, so I will tip one in his honor. There should be plenty left in case you want something a little more "Kentucky" between your "Mississippi's."

I have to fly in. So I can't really bring my own. However if some camper can supply the ice chest, I volunteer to fill it with beer as long as there's a few in there for me.

I like the fact that we're planning our drinking. Shows the true discipline of harp players.

Greg, I'll even bring in a second cooler for you. I know Annie will have plenty of cold ones for sale, but I plan to keep going long after they close the kitchen. Plus, if you help fill it, it will be like the magic cooler I always wanted...

I think Rob is coming, and his cooler mysteriously never runs out of beer. Its one of the wonders of the modern world. It pretty much destroyed the Mad Men of CCHC along with Billy Branch one night. Of course with the help of Annie.

I suppose it is a sacrilege to even mention Scotch for this event. I'm usually a beer guy ("BAG" is for "Brown Ale Guy"), but I'm flying in too so I'm still mullin' over all the possibilities. Might bring a collapsable cooler. I'm flying in to Memphis early on Friday so I can shop for supplies before headin' down to the ranch.

The more "dans" the merrier. I'm glad I could derail this thread towards my other hobby (drinking), but in honor of the main point of the event. . .Here's some goals I've set for myself.

1. I'm bored with my 3rd position playing. I need to seek out some new ideas.

2. I'm working on the side-to-side "warble". I will ask anyone who can do it, to explain it.

3. I need to get somebody to force my hands into working on a harmonica. I'm not very good with tools etc.

4. I want to meet more crazy harp players from all over the US and world.

5. Re-learn my name, address, and phone number at some point on Monday a.m.

Best wishes to all those making the pilgrimage to harp player's woodstock. I wish I could go, but I cannot, reasons aren't important. I'd make a sacrifice to the travel gods, harp gods in all of your honor...but I don't know who they are...so i'll leave you with this instead.

have a GREAT time!
