The Royal Wedding?
No one other than the Poms are able to put on such an extravaganza embracing history, pomp, pageantry, ceremony & show. Very much wanting Australia to become a republic but still being a closet royalist, I enjoyed nearly every aspect of the show. The fancy dress, the high fashion & the ridiculous. The musicians & the choir were good. But, IMO the choice of music was woeful-dirgy-dreary stuff far more suited for a funeral. The Poms have a huge repertoire of great music and should, I believe, have chosen music which was more joyous & uplifting.
The joy & the seriousness of such an occasion was fabulous. But I seriously thought the music was woeful!

Well, as a proud pom and out and proud royalist I'd say yeah, the music stank the place up but the rest of it was fantastic. My wife is Slovakian and even she cried watching it! Pomp and ceremony is our bag baby!

I think we should drop the blues hat and all wear fascinators! ----------

I was determined not to like it but after just a few minutes of watching the crowds of people who had been camping overnite to get a prime view, I caved in and watched the whole lot.
There's been so much shit around lately I was pleased to watch so many people garner some enjoyment and happiness from the occasion.
I thought the military bands and guards did a fabulous job and I thought it was all so well arranged. The historical settings, the pomp and pageantry will go a long way in getting people to visit in the future. What a great advert for London?
And I thought Katherine was really dishy. What a lovely lady.
At times I could feel myself welling up purely because so much pleasure had been given to the assembled crowds of onlookers, and boy did they deserve it.

In a world of massive and increasing divide between the haves and have nots, I personally find the idea of the masses celebrating inherited privilege and power a bit of a joke (especially when they are a bunch of inbred loonies in funny outfits). What I really find offensive though, is when those in power censor our right to comment on them, as has just happened with the canceling of an aussie satirical show that was going to do a live coverage of the event. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/04/30/3204384.htm
Satire is an important element of free expression in a democratic country. I was so offended that I felt obliged to watch as much of it as I could on youtube; check this one for instance:

I got a laugh from this too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQojk8a6TfQ&feature=relmfu
these guys really are beyond the pale and often do very questionable and offensive stuff, but I defend their right to do it.
England can do whatever it wants with their royals, but to have them dictate what we can say about them in Australia is no joke. Viva le republic. ---------- Lucky Lester

I watched it in bristol and like you Took I was starting from a cynical viewpoint but what a show!
Then all last night I listened to the police helicoptors as the anarchists or (rent a mob) tried to kick shit out of the police in the Stokes Croft area. 15 arrests of anti Tesco rioters last night.
I used to be like that in 1969!!
@djcripey
Who is dictating to Australia media, not us mate, we cant wait to get rid:) and satire is second nature to us, next to sarcasm and irony.

Hey, I'm an Aussie and I agree with the actions of the Brits to come down hard on the chaser loonies. They are a disruptive team of ratbags spreading nothing but trash. They serve no useful purpose other than to bring shame upon us.
I'm not a royalist because Australia has become a vastly different place to when I was young. In my youth our anthem was God Save The King/ then Queen, & nearly everyone apart from our indigenous was somehow linked by bloodlines to the UK. Tracing back can be dangerous as many were sent here as convicts!
But we have moved on to be such a melting pot of cultures from all corners of the globe & to many/most Australians their links are to elsewhere.
I still love the Pomp & Pageantry and was glued to the TV from start to finish. It was a big sell for the UK & they did a magnificent job. I had a 'moment' when I saw Prince Philip nearly stumble getting aboard the carriage. This took me back to when I was a boy scout in Melbourne and was chosen to 'work' as a volunteer at a Govt House garden party put on for the Queen during her visit here in the 50's. My job was to open the car door for them when they arrived. The Prince actually spoke to me.
But I still reckon the music they chose for the wedding was not uplifting, joyous or triumphant enough for the truly magnificent occasion.

Sorry guys but I'm with didge on this one! The Chaser are a good natured reminder to the youth of the world and the uninformed of just how 'unfair' can be the ways of the world and those still in archaic forms of government! My wife is from England and very proud of her heritage and whilst not a royalist, felt compelled to watch it from start to finish. We could give the whole thing a good kick up the harp....... :~)
