Which would sound the "biggest" and have the most useable volume? (I might get to test this myself tonight)
1. Two small amps ran together - assume two approx. 5w amps with a single 8" or 10" speaker
2. Small amp miked to a single PA speaker (see Adams' post) - assume same 5w amp with same speaker to 300w+ PA cab with a single 10 or 12
3. Small amp through a multi-speaker cab - assume same 5w amp thrsound fuller than a single 5w amp, but probably not be louder in stage volume (IME). Choice two looks like a winner, but is 300w+ through ONE speaker (as the amp's speaker may get drowned out) going to sound better than multiple speakers?
Again - obective here is small amp tone with big amp body and useable stage volume.
If I have time, which I am sure I won't, I could A/B options 2 and 3. I've tried a VHT Special 6 to my HG50 cab and it did sound bigger...not really louder, though. I have not tried comparing that to the VHT into a 1x10 powered PA speaker at 100w though. I mean, I've done that live, but not in a direct A/B with the HG50 cab.
***Should also note the VHT matches the HG volume to about 2.5, but with the 50w, I can dial in a much larger and fuller sound...not the same overdrive, but the HG even on 2.5 can sound enormous. ---------- Mike Quicksilver Custom Harmonicas
