I'm not currently shopping for amps but am researching and dreaming. The general consensus is the Valve Jr is a very competent practice amp. How does the Valve Standard compare for Harp? And finally, how does the Valve Junior head and cab fit in to all of this?
When I do actually plan on buying an amp I'll be going and testing out for myself but would love to hear your guys experiences.
Thanks Guys,

I've used the search feature and I wasn't going to ask until I read Miles post on another thread saying there was a decline in posts after a confrontation. So I'm 'helping' fill the void...... ;)
I play through a 5-watt Valve Special at home and at some small gigs. IMO, that combo is one of the better 5-watt combos I've ever played through, if you don't use the fx channel. I attribute much of it to the large speaker enclosure.
I purchased the Epiphone after getting tired of the lack of low end response in my 70's Silverface Champ ( unmodded ). I went to a guitar store-- Dave's Guitar in LaCrosse,Wi.-- that had a row of 5-watt tube amps on the floor: everything from the cheap Epi's through the RI Skylarks, and the boutiques, incl. RI 5F1, Victoria, etc. I played through all of 'em and went back to the Epi, due to its low price and comparatively good sound.
The Standard has 15 watts, which puts it square into the wheelhouse of some of the best sounding vintage tube amps out there.. including the Valcos, Ampeg ReverbRockets, etc. And, it's still got that large enclosure, similar to what you'd find on some 30 to 50-watt amps. In other words, power wise, that Epi Standard is giggable, especially when mic'ed.
Thanks for the input. With the lack of posts today I spent some time cruising older post and (as expected) stumbled across a bunch of great stuff. Sounds like the head and cab is the way to go.
It kind of sounds thin to my ears . But It could be the recording Matzen Posted . I would go for a amp with more watts or more speakers or just buy a amp made for harp rather then a guitar amp unless you can get a fender bassman or a concert etc .Just my 2 cents ,And in in these times it's just worth 1 cent !
Toddg, a harpgear amp or bassman would be ideal. I've got A LONG way to go before I leap into amps and stuff. I'm more brain storming and day dreaming. In all honesty I should be practicing instead of cruising the Internet looking at stuff I can't afford........ But I can't seem to help it.
