OK, It's kinda like braggin', but I'm just tickled it worked.
Last week the 6 blow went out my G harp, a Special 20. I gotta have it for all the Aminor tunes. I gotta have it tomorrow, I have a couple of hours, sooooooo. the great reed transplant comes down.
I took an old C harp and found a reed the right length. They vary in about 1mm increments. I went to my "day work" lab. I make eyeglasses. I have a lot of nice toys.
Punching out the old reed was easy enough, and I was able to reuse the rivet. I was able to reset the reed, but it was miss-alighned a bit, but I was able to work around that.
The transplant reed was about a step too high. The reeds were the same length, but Honer left more metal on the tip of the G harp. I added solder and went 1 1/2 steps flat. Ground some solder off until I reached a good D.
I spent another hour tuning it up and playing with gaps. Now it's ready and I'm ready for the club tommorow night.

I have not had to buy a harp in while. I kept telling my self "my next harp will be a Delta Frost" due to reed plates being available. But now reed plates are available for the Special 20, AND now I can do reed repair on the special 20. (I will NOT try welded reeds, as found on Delta Frost and Bluesmasters, even though I use both currently). I guess I am going to be a Special 20 man for a while. ---------- intermediate level (+) player per the Adam Gussow Scale, Started playing 2001

I forgot to tell the story about "Crazy Eddie" replacing the 4 draw reed on my Seydel Solist at VA Harmonicafest. It was a pleasure and a learning experience to watch him do it. The whole process took him about 30 minutes, with about 10 minutes of that in tuning the reed. (I took 2 hours)
The old addage in the medical field is, watch one, do one, teach one. Now it's time for me to teach one. (maybe) ---------- intermediate level (+) player per the Adam Gussow Scale, Started playing 2001

The more you do it the better you'll get at it. No more throwing harps away!
