So I've been downloading a lot of harmonica blues lately for insperation. I started off with most of the bigger names like little walter, sonny boy I & II, muddy and howlin' wolf. I picked up James Cotton's "Deep in the blues" and was taken back. This cd gets more play time than it's fair share. Pretty much can't get enough of it. It's simple (like layed back. not simple as in easy) slow paced and very soulful.

After a search of the site I found a thread by another newer guy and was turned on to "the Memphis barbecue sessions". Which is an excellent cd but still a little fast paced.

My question is this, does anybody have any recommendations that have that same vibe as "deep in the blues"? If so let me know!

Thanks in advance,

Checked out that Cotton-album and loved it!
Thanks for pointing it out:)

I can recommend an album called "An offer you can't refuse". You can find it on Spotify and it's originally one side with Big Walter and one side with early Paul Butterfield. I really like Big Walters playing. It's just guitar and harp and it's really stripped down.

Sonny Boy Williamson -Keep it to ourselves.

That is a great laid back acoustic harp album, well worth checking out.

Yes, like thorvaldsen76, I'd say Big walter. Maybe
The "Soul of Blues Harmonica" LP. I recently uploaded "hard hearted woman" on my blog.

Thanks guys, I haven't had a chance to check out all the recommendations, but I will. Thanks!!!

thorvaldsen76, "stripped down" is the exact right term. Just contains the basic's with no fat.
