Having looked at lots of chroms on the web, I fancy a cx12. Are they any good? they seem to have reasonable reviews. My 270 just seems to be 'tired' and quiet.

They are great ! Comfortable once you adjust to the width of the mouthpiece. They are louder and clearer to my ear than the 270. The CX12 'Jazz' model has a reshaped (finer) mouthpiece. Also check out the great new website: effortlessharmonica.com - Wonderful advice from a Jazz master who uses the CX12. :) ---------- KiwiRick

I like the CX. Very easy to play and airtight. Very comfortable to tongue block.
The tone is not quite as nice as the 270 and 64 wooden bodied harps, but these need work to get them to play as well as the CX.
So, if you want a good OOTB harp go for the CX. ---------- The Pentatonics Myspace Youtube

i actually like it and i am not a huge fan of hohner products. it does have a strange feel at first and takes some time getting use to but overall its pretty nice. i prefer my Suzuki scx48 because it has a more traditional feel to me but you cant go wrong with either.

I played 270's for years, then got a CX12 when they first came out; now have 3 CX12's in Bb, F and Tenor C
Very reliable, still using them all every week.

I've got a CX12 and a 270 from Tony Dannecker. I think the 270 has better tone, but the CX is so easy to play.

It is probably the best chromatic made! Does that answer your question? They are easy to play and work on. They don't have the blues tone that some other chroms have, but they play better than any other chrom made!

I like how they "pop" apart so easy. I've been told that they are a bit darker sounding and don't cut though as well as other chroms when playing with a band. ----------

@ Matzen They are three different models fo CX 12. The black model does sound dark to me to. CX 12 Gold is totally different. It has thicker reedplates which makes it a little louder and brighter. I play the Gold and to me its a little to bright. Just can't win!

@ chromaticblues I never knew they made the gold model. I just looked it up and it looks perfect. It solves the problem I had with the black model because it has a more narrow mouth piece. I just might pick one of these up now.

@RT123 No thats the Jazz model. That one has the same reedplates as the black CX 12. They don't sell it with the Gold reedplates? I'm not sure, but I think the black and Jazz models have 1.05mm thick reedplates and the Gold has 1.2mm. The Jazz is kind of redish gold. It does look like a very nice harp. Maybe if enough people send Emails to Hohner they will start offering it with the thicker reedplates?

@ chromaticblues - OK i see it now. The gold looks nice as well but is almost twice as much money, around 300. It has the same design as the CX12 black. I think I still like the look of the CX12 Jazz.

Oh I agree with you 100%. The jazz looks like a very cool harp. I will eventually buy a jazz and put my CX Gold insides in the the jazz housing. God they cost alot though!
