I'm working on the 'bye bye bird' / 'gettin out of town' thing and need to get a low c harp. I play MB's mostly and quite fancy a 12 hole but I'm unsure if it the one I need.
Are the extra holes at the lower end or higher end? I found a layout of a 12/14 hole MB on harmonicas direct and it looks the same as a 10 hole.
Also, whats 'SBS' tuning and do I need it?
Hope you guys can help me out (again!)
Many thanks
Rich
PS. I checked the archive and couldn't find an old thread on the subject but if it has been answered before, my bad!
Hey Rich, I recently went down a similar road.In the eighties I had a few 14 holers. I went for an SBS (Steve Baker Special) 14 hole. You get an extra octave on an extra 3 holes down low , and an extra cupla' notes on 1 hole up high. Great harp but really BAD COMB!!!! I had two in a row swell up so much in only half an hour! I've since sorted that out with a nice hardwood comb from Randy Sandoval and some light tweaking and it plays very smoothly.
Some of his stuff seems to be lo-D & C, Ronnie Shellist does some good lessons on this :~)

Rich: The harp SB2 plays on Bye Bye Bird is a 364 Low C and Rick Estrin plays the same on Getting Out of Town. When you go to but it it will be sold like a C but it is a Low C.
Your previous post has been duly noted and taken on board! I have some sandpaper and some salad bowl oil on stand-by if push comes to shove. If that fails I'll tap you up for Randy Sandovals email! LOL :o)
