Give me your suggestions for a harmonica club venue.

After 9 plus years, The Java Joint is closing. We will no longer have the coffee shop to host our meetings. We are considering churches, bars, and public buildings, among other possibilities. I can see so many pros and cons with all choices that it is starting to look like a gamble regardless the choice. Change can be good, and I want to increase the chances of it being a good change.

We currently hold weekly gatherings from 7pm to 9pm. We have a drummer, bass, guitar(s). (Last week 1 guitar, last night about 6 guitars.) Guitar solos are rare. There are about 4 to 8 harp players. Most members are 50+ in age. We play straight traditional and blues/rock/country. We have some good players, but a lot of beginners. We make a LOT of mistakes at our sessions, but everyone leaves happy and has a good time.

Please give me your suggestions.

Jim-We alternate our Crescent City Harmonica Club meetings between two different bars-both have jams on the same night as our meetings, and both have separate rooms from the barroom(non-smoking in our meetings is never a rule that is questioned;our smokers are respectful of that), so we have privacy and can make noise if we want.

Both bar owners love us, because most of us drink at least one or two drinks each, and the bar that is also a restaurant also gets food orders. We also have an agreement with the owners that we get to keep a harp player onstage throughout the jam, which is right after our meetings(we rotate each other in and out). It works well. It's a win/win situation:we don't have to pay for the space, and they make extra money off of sales from us.
I would suggest looking for barrooms with separate rooms, and it's a plus if they also have a jam!
