Hey Guys,
i have a question about turnarounds in playing the blues. Ive been working on my timing , i aleady have some riffs in my pocket but when it comes doen to the turnaround i end up wailing on the 4 draw or the 1 draw and how suprsinig is that ? nothing wroing with it i suppose but im really eager to learn and expand cause in my opnion they add so much flavor and feel .
does anybody have any advice, suggestion on how to take a step foward ? Id really apprerciate it .
What im actually doing right now to help me is iistening to guitar players doing the turnarounds and trying in in bits by bits to break it down.
THNAKS,

Here's one that I think hear Adam and others play sometimes......
1d,2d",1d,2d",1d, 1d,2d"2d",1d 1d,2d",1d,2d",1b, 4b,3b,4b,3d', 1d,2d",1d,2d, 3d',4d,4b, (4d',4d,4d',3d',2d,) 1d, 2d" 2d", 1d1d"
Try that and mess around with variations on it.
Junior Wells has some really easy turnarounds. Many others do too.

Most harp players try to do something exciting and dramatic on the turnaround. For the past while, when I'm playing with a band I've taken to laying out completely on the turnaround.
Sort of counter intuitive, but it keeps me from playing cliches and it makes what i do play all that more interesting when i start playing again. It also keeps me from overplaying and becoming a pain in the ass to listen to--and, as one bandleader keeps reminding me, it's easy for harp to be a pain in the ass to listen to if the player isn't careful. Also, most harp players try to crescendo on the turnaround, so it's sort of interesting for the audience when the harp lays out--it's not what they are expecting to hear and it allows the music to breathe.
i make an exception every once in a while when I think of something unusually musical or dramatic to play on the turn around (which, btw, is not very often). And, you know, most of the time the guitar player comes up with a better turnaround lick than I ever would have. Nothing wrong with shutting up and letting the music happen around you ever now and then.
Just a thought...but, YMMV.

I'm agreeing with hvyi these days. I'd even extend it to sharing/laying off the fills. Helps withs the big ears thing. However...if you do want some turnaround inspiration check out the big man, Paul deLay (RIP).

Are we talking bars 9, 10, 11 and 12 or just the 12th bar? I have never been clear on weather the turnaround is 4 bars or just 1. I have heard it referred to either way. ----------
