I was looking over my website today just to see what I had on it. I looked at the guys I played with and Pee Wee Crayton jumped out in relation to the ever going tone/gear threads I read here. I got to play with him several times as part of the Mark Naftlin Blue Monday shows at teh sleeping lady in Fairfax Ca. Bob Weir of the Dead owned the place and every monday Mark (keyboardist in Butterfield blues band) would host an invite only jam that featured the best in the bay area and touring players. Tom Mazzolini (Founder SF blues fest) would broadcast it live on KPFA radio. That is where I first met Charlie Musselwhite. Anyway, I rember Pee Wee playing some smoking hot stuff on a les paul knock off guitar through a marshal amplifier. this was so against the blues rules that it really caught my attention. He could make that thing sound as sweet and deep as any gibson through a fender amp or as wierd as this clip shows. Our own Joe Lee Bush plays some super great tones through a cheapo amp I believe. What I take away from these things is to experiment without looking at labels. Plus if you find an off beat combo you will have a unique sound. With that said here is a video I found of pee wee but I can't figure how to embed it because it is in another language and not youtube. Can somebody figure it out? I am off to put new strings on this guitar(the first one I owned that was playable beyond the first few frets and my main guitar for 15 or so years). It is a no name 50's of some sort whose strings are at least 10 years old. I am going to get to messing with it again.

the only video I could find of Pee Wee Crayton with the rig he used when I played with him
